The m3ddity player is a C implementation of the UPnP media renderer interfaces. It is targeted at playing MP3 from a library on a compact playback device.
Where it sits in the model
UPnP separates the roles of a media server, a renderer and a control point. The player implements the renderer role: it receives a media item and plays it. The server provides the library, and a control point tells the renderer what to play.
Implementing the renderer role in C keeps the footprint small, which matters when the target is an embedded or low power device rather than a desktop computer.
