The m3ddity server provides MP3 library access to the network. The original description names three surfaces: UPnP, a web interface and further access methods that the archive did not enumerate.
Why a server at all
A library that lives on one machine is useful to one listener. A library exposed over the network can feed a renderer in another room, a phone, or a desktop player. The server is the component that makes the same folder layout available to all of them.
Because the layout is readable in the file system, the server does not have to invent a private data model. It can present the existing folder tree in whatever protocol a client understands.
What the archive records
- Network access through UPnP.
- A web interface.
- Additional access methods, not enumerated in the original text.
- A milestone named m3server 0.0.1 in the roadmap.

Recorded scope
The original page was listed in the project index but its body was not preserved. This page keeps the recorded description and avoids claiming protocols or features that the archive did not name.
